Final Act - Time For Goodbye
“So, it’s serious then?” asks Jansen as the women of Coven gather in the locker room.
Muriko nods her head. “Serious.” She’s been picking up some English, enough to understand more than to speak. “I have to go.”
Leah had been leaning up against a locker and she pushes forward. “Well, damn.”
Emily has been more reserved through this conversation, having been the closest of all of Coven to the Ihari sisters. Jansen walks over and puts an arm around her before turning back to Muriko, “You do what you gotta do.” She repeats the phrase in Japanese as Muriko gets a confused look on her face and then just nods her head.
Just after her match with Azurine Vebbins, Muriko had come back to the locker room to receive a text from her sister Huruka stating their father had been admitted to the hospital with heart issues. First thing she did was go see Robert Mack and made him aware of the situation. She would be leaving, but would try and come back if she could.
Then she waited for Coven to finish for the night and let them know what was happening. Everyone seemed very understanding, which relieved Muriko because she hated letting them down. Coven had become family to her.
She saw the sadness in Emily’s eyes and walked over and embraced her friend. Emily whispered to her, “You’ll come back, right?” Muriko pulled back and half-smiles, “I try.” A hand on her back startles Muriko only briefly before she realizes that it’s Leah.
“Look, once Coven, always Coven. You’ve got a home here, Ihari.” Muriko nods her head, understanding most of what’s said. “Thank you,” she said. Muriko had booked the first flight possible out of Chicago.
“Let’s get you to the hotel so you can get your things and then off to the airport,” Jansen says to her in Japanese. Muriko nods, grabbing her bag and turns to the others one last time as Jansen opens the door. Muriko heads out only to see that Alastair Frost is leaning up against the wall in the hallway.
He pushes himself off the wall, walks over and offers a fist to Muriko who responds with a bump. “Take care. Come back when you can,” he says as he gives her a bow. She returns the bow and nods, “I will.”
She moves a little further down and sees Gabriel Ohio. They exchange a nodding of heads before Muriko and Jansen exit the arena.
As Jansen drives her back to the hotel, Muriko looks out the window. Her future, once fairly solid was now not so much. First thing is first, get back to see her father and then her future will have to wait.
