It had already been a long morning.
The third following Sunday night’s Mile High Wrestling episode that featured a family assault led by Brittany and Jenny Williams that grew to include Stephanie Sullivan on Brittany’s own mother, Christina “Crystal” Zdunich. Brittany and her Aunt Jenny, the sister of Christina’s ex-husband and father of her two biological children, had seemingly come out of nowhere when they were joined in their collective berating of Christina by her erstwhile best friend, Stephanie, who was also currently dating Nadja Lindström, the cousin of Christina’s wife, Seleana Zdunich.
Seleana had been standing there next to her wife, acting as her manager and second in Mile High and had been caught in the crossfire. Aunt Jenny had landed a kick that caught Seleana flush on the chin and while she was not paying Aunt Jenny attention, just like a sucker punch.
With Seleana sent to the mat and out of the way, Brittany, Aunty Jenny and Stephanie had turned their attention to the still shocked Christia and started pummeling her three on one. She was finally saved when the new tag team of Union Jacked, Kate Steele and Jenni Taylor, had interjected themselves.
Christina had acted strangely ever since.
The flight back home to Los Angeles from Atlanta had been abnormally quiet. Christina was usually boisterous and quite verbose regardless of whether she’d won or lost. The ride home from LAX to the house in the Hollywood Hills had been no less strangely quiet.
Throughout the entire trip, Christina Zdunich had not said word one.
As the pair had walked into the house, Christina had barely stopped to acknowledge their girlfriend, Alex Caldwell, and had only perfunctorily hugged their daughter, ten-year-old Aurora. Christina had then walked slowly to the bedroom she shared with Seleana and Alex and staggered inside.
Monday and Tuesday had passed with much of the same and now, on Wednesday morning, Seleana had returned from a morning run to find Alex and Aurora both standing in the main room of the house looking stunned. Seleana’s cousin, Freja Lindström, who was usually around to act as a nanny, was also standing there with them looking just as stunned.
One look was enough to tell Seleana that something was very, very wrong.
Walking back to the bedroom, Seleana finds Christina hurriedly packing a bag as going on another trip. Seleana stares at the bag and blinks for a second.
Seleana Zdunich: Stjärna?
Christina continues on her way as if she has heard nothing, noticed nothing in the room with her. What was going on here? Seleana, cocks her head in confusion.
Seleana Zdunich: ¿Estrellita?
Again, there is no reaction at all from Christina to the pet name her wife had always called her. What was going on? Christina seemingly finishes and starts to pull on the zipper only to stop and start nervously glancing around the room. Seleana watches on as Christina goes and grabs one last thing from the closet and then shoves it into the bag.
Seleana Zdunich: Christina?
Finally pausing for the briefest of seconds, Christina’s right hand shoots up, the index finger extended.
Christina Zdunich: One second!
With that abrupt, curt reply, Christina goes back to going through her bag as if looking for long lost buried treasure and then nods in satisfaction. She pulls the zipper closed, picks up the bag and turns to face Seleana, the Swedish woman seemingly swallowing the doorway. Christina nods firmly.
Christina Zdunich: Dining room.
Seleana steps back into the hallway, her eyes still glued on her wife. Christina takes a deep breath, seemingly steeling herself, and strides right past Seleana into the wallway. Seleana watches her go by and follows her into the aforementioned room, confusion and worry reigning on the Swedish woman’s face. As she gets to her destination, she finds Christina setting the bag down on the table.
Christina Zdunich: Alex?
Seleana steps in her tracks as Christina stares at the opposite entry point to the room.
Seleana Zdunich: Stjärna, what is going on?
Before Christina says anything, Alex walks in from the other room looking just as confused and worried as Seleana is.
Alexandra Caldwell: What’s up?
Seleana nods as if agreeing with Alex despite nothing much being said. Christina exhales heavily and looks at Alex and then back to Selena. She looks away from both of them and stares at the floor.
Christina Zdunich: Sometimes in life we have to make decisions that we necessarily don't like but you know deep down, it's the right one. Today, I make that decision and it is best for everyone.
She looks to Seleana and slides her wedding ring off her finger.
Christina Zdunich: Everything that has happened to you in the last few years has been my fault. If it wasn’t me doing it, it was somebody doing it to you because of me. You’ve been attacked, assaulted, ridiculed…
She taps herself in the chest.
Christina Zdunich: My fault…
She looks down, visibly ashamed, the guilt seemingly eating her alive.
Christina Zdunich: So much so that it got that damn hashtag going and it became a thing.for a lot of people.
Tears start to form in her eyes.
Christina Zdunich: You put up with so much shit just from me, but to add in the othrs and now to have you get hit because i was a shitty mother…
She shakes her head as the tears start to roll down.
Christina Zdunich: They're right, you deserve better than me...
Seleana’s jaw drops.
Seleana Zdunich: Stjärna…
Christina sets the ring down on the table and then pulls a second one from the same hand.
Christina Zdunich: And now it’s starting with you too, Alex. People have started coming at you because of me and I can’t let this continue.
She sets the second ring on the table next to the first one.
Christina Zdunich: I can’t do this to you or to Aurora anymore. If I stay, all I’ll do is hurt all of you more…
Wiping away a tear, she looks up and nods to Seleana.
Christina Zdunich: I free you… I’m not your problem anymore…
Seleana can’t believe her ears.
Seleana Zdunich: Estrellita…
Christina shakes her head and looks over at Alex.
Christina Zdunich: I free you too before anybody can get any bright ideas about things. I’m not your problem anymore either.
Alex stares at Christina, horrified. Christina grabs the bag and sucks in a sharp, deep breath.
Christina Zdunich: Take care of Aurora… you were always better at it than me anyway…
She turns and hurries off to the garage and out of the house. Seleana and Alex both stand there in stunned silence, both caught off-guard, both in shock. The whole thing had happened so fast, neither had gotten much of a chance to say anything to contradict what Christina had been saying. The two thunderstruck women look up to each other and walk to the table together. They stare at the rings on the table, neither able to really comprehend what has just happened..
Alexandra Caldwell: What do we do now?
Seleana Zdunich: We wait…
Alex nods slowly as they hear footsteps from the other room. They turn to see Aurora coming in with Freja. Seleana quickly grabs the rings and slides them into her pocket.
Aurora Zdunich: Where did Mommy go?
Seleana walks over to the little girl and kneels down in front of her.
Seleana Zdunich: Something bad happened on Sunday, ja?
Aurora nods. She had been watching the show and knew exactly what had happened.
Seleana Zdunich: Mommy needs some time to work through what happened. She try to fix, now we have to let her go try and we have to wait for her.
Aurora nods slowly, the little girl taking it all in.
Aurora Zdunich: When will that be?
Seleana takes a deep breath and looks the little girl in the eyes.
Seleana Zdunich: I do not know, Sweetheart. Mommy needs time.
Aurora nods sadly and Seleana takes her into her arms.
Seleana Zdunich: I love you, Aurora. This is not your fault.
Aurora hugs her adoptive mother, saying nothing as she does so. Selean kisses the top of her little head.
Seleana Zdunich: I need to take care of something at the zoo today. Would you be keen to accompany me?
Aurora nods and Seleana smiles.
Seleana Zdunich: Okej, let us get you ready then, ja?
Aurora nods and hurries to her room.
Seleana Zdunich: I will take her out for lunch and then we can see how things are after, ja?
Alex nods.
Alexandra Caldwell: Yeah. I love you.
Seleana smiles for Alex.
Seleana Zdunich: I love you too.

Six days had passed since Christina Zdunich had taken her rings off and “free’d” her wife and girlfriend. In the interim, Seleana Zdunich, Aurora Zdunich, Alex Caldwell and Freja Lindström had tried to go on as normal as possible. Seleana and Alex had both kept their professional engagements and traveled to wrestling bookings, in between trying to act like nothing was going on that was out of the ordinary.
But they could feel that wasn’t true.
The hole left in their lives from Christina was still too fresh to just dismiss as nothing major or on-going. It was both and they all knew it.
They all felt it.
Now, with Freja taking Aurora out for a playdate up the street, Alex and Seleana walked around the big, mostly empty mansion. Both knew this would only remind them of what was missing because this had been Christina’s house before either of them had come into the picture and it reflected her tendencies perfectly.
It was big.
It was loud.
It was likely too much for her needs.
In short, it WAS Christina.
After walking the halls on every floor for an hour, Seleana comes back down and finds Alex standing in the dining room by the table in almost the exact same position and posture Christina had been in when she left. Two bags stand packed on the table and Seleana nods sadly to Alex.
Seleana Zdunich: I know…
Alex nods slowly.
Alexandra Caldwell: I can’t do it, Sel. I just…
She looks down, the guilt and shame on her face mirroring the look that had been on Christina's not even a week earlier.
Alexandra Caldwell: I’m about to leave for Japan. I’m basically going to be living on the road the rest of the year. I can’t do that with this cloud over all of us like this. It was bad enough when it was me and we all knew a decision was coming soon but this…
Alex shakes her head sadly.
Alexandra Caldwell: I tried to talk to her last night and basically got, “whatever’d.” I know she has problems and I know she needs…
Tears start to overcome her and she looks away, shaking her head. Seleana nods knowingly, just as sad.
Seleana Zdunich: I know.
Alex looks up to the ceiling, visibly kicking herself in her own mind.
Alexandra Caldwell: You’ve been so nice… you didn’t have to let me into your marriage. You had every right to just…
Breaking down again, the tears start to come fast and furious. Seleana walks over to her and takes Alex into her arms.
Seleana Zdunich: Ja, I understand, Alex.
Alex wraps her arms around Seleana and embraces the Swedish woman as the tears come in deluge she is unable to stop. With tears in her eyes as well, Seleana kisses Alex’s head.
Seleana Zdunich: You deserve to find your happiness, Alex, even if it is not here.
The two sob together for a few minutes until Alex fis finally able to pull herself together.
Alexandra Caldwell: Can we still be friends?
Seleana nods tearfully.
Seleana Zdunich: Ja… if you can…
Alex nods slowly as she takes the ring of her finger and slides it onto the table along with the keys to the house and the apartment in Las Vegas she had been given the previous Christmas.
Alexandra Caldwell: I’m sorry…
Seleana embraces her again.
Seleana Zdunich: That’s me as well, Chickie.
The two stand in the embrace for another few minutes before they hear the door open, Aurora’s voice ringing out. Alex quickly tries to pull herself together while Seleana scoops the ring and keys up, placing them into her pocket. Aurora and Freja come into the room, Freja nodding apologetically.
Freja Lindström: They are running behind. Will be another hour.
Seleana and Alex both nod but Aurora just stares back. She walks forward and stops right in front of Alex.
Aurora Zdunich: You’re leaving?
Alex nods.
Alexandra Caldwell: Yes.
Aurora can only nod.
Aurora Zdunich: Is it because of me?
Alex leans down onto one knee.
Alexandra Caldwell: No, Baby. It’s nothing to do with you. I’m still gonna be around, I’m just not gonna be with your mommy anymore. Don;’t worry though, I’m still gonna be there for you.
Aurora looks up, searching Alex’s face.
Aurora Zdunich: You are?
Alex nods.
Alexandra Caldwell: I’m gonna call you every week while I’m in Japan.
Aurora brightens up.
Aurora Zdunich: You will?
Alex nods, smiling back.
Alexandra Caldwell: Of course, you’re still my girl, ain’t you?
Aurora nods and throws her arms around Alex, Alex doing the same for the little girl.
Alexandra Caldwell: I’m gonna be around for you.
Aurora squeezes tighter.
Aurora Zdunich: Promise?
Alex nods, kissing the little girl’s head.
Alexandra Caldwell: I promise.

Seleana Zdunich had been in bed for an hour, but sleep was not gifting her with any rest at all. In fact, sleep was not visiting her at all. She’d felt the tears wanting to start almost as soon as her head had hit the pillow. They’d held off for ten minutes before they started. Now they were coming in full force. As Seleana looked up at the ceiling, her arms went out and, for the first time, the realization was setting in.
She was alone.
Her hands come back to her face and a whisper exits her lips.
Seleana Zdunich: Varför?
As the sobs start to come, she rolls over, hoping the pillows will muffle the noise and save the other people in the house from hearing her. Freja’s girlfriend, Lucy Osman had come in from Las Vegas and was with her in her room and little Aurora was in her room, hopefully peacefully asleep.
Seleana did not want to disturb any of them.
Seleana Zdunich: Varför?
Burying her face in the pillow, Seleana starts to scream into it, unable to contain everything she’s tried to keep a lid on for the last week. Pain radiates through her body as she tries desperately to keep things quiet even as the squalls exit her mouth. The sobs come in waves, washing over her again and again, seemingly in an infinite line that just will not stop. After about the fifth one, a small voice reaches her ears from the doorway.
Aurora Zdunich: Mommy?
A new panic grips Seleana as she fights to pull herself together enough to manage an answer. She sits up and looks over to the door and little Aurora.
Seleana Zdunich: J...Ja?
Aurora runs over to the bed and jumps into her mother’s arms.
Aurora Zdunich: I love you, Mommy!
The torrent threatens to rush over Seleana again and kisses the little girl’ head.
Seleana Zdunich: I… love you too.
The two cry together and then lie down, drifting off to sleep, each hoping the other will feel better in the morning.
