This scene reveals a younger Joseph. He looks to be barely still in his teens, if even that. He walks into what appears to simply be an empty warehouse. There’s no sign, no nothing to indicate what it is. However, upon opening the front door and walking inside, we see there is much more to this place than what meets the eye.
The first thing that stands out is a fighting ring, with a cage surrounding it. Two very tall, huge men are in the midst of fighting as Joseph takes a seat near the pit.
Given he knows his way around here, it’s fair enough to assume this isn’t the first time he’s been here. And if anyone could read his mind, they’d know that was exactly correct.
For all who knew of this location, it was simply referred to as Anarchy. Fitting enough, he supposed. There were basically no rules in any of these fights. While he had never personally seen this, he heard there had been some people who got stabbed or even shot to death if they were put against the wrong opponent.
It seemed to essentially be a modern-day gladiator fighting pit.
Why he came to such a brutal place, particularly for someone who was quite the pacifist, was anyone’s guess. Including Joseph himself. In all honesty, even he wasn’t certain what drew him here.
It started out simple enough. Some friends from high school had mentioned the place. His curiosity got the best of him so … lo and behold. Here he was yet again.
His head shook as he decided there was no real point bothering on trying to figure specifics out. Even if he didn’t understand it, he was back in Anarchy.
After maybe twenty or so more minutes, the fight between the two brawlers would end in the typical, bloody fashion. The ring announcer would wear a smug smirk as he walked out, holding a mic in his hands.
”So, ladies and gentlemen! Tonight, we have a special treat! New blood -- as in a new fighter. The floor being coated in blood is never a new thing. Not here, anyway.”
The dry jest got more people than one would expect to react. Whether it was a chortle, snicker, full-fledged laugh or something else, most people seemed to like the joke … even though the guy was being deathly serious.
”Tonight, we have our youngest ever fighter to join us! Please join me in welcoming Samantha Hamilton to Anarchy!”
Joseph’s mouth fell agape as he saw the man hadn’t been kidding. A girl even younger than himself walked out. She looked .. gorgeous. But more than that? Her expression was intriguing. It looked something akin to a bitter reaction yet relieved all at once.
Why? What was her story?
Surely, there had to be some explanation. Because from a quick glance, she certainly did not seem like the type of person who would even dare to fight brutes like the ones who typically entered this ring.
”And her opponent for the evening … Ezekiel Jacobson!”
Whereas the sixteen-year-old version of Sam was a bit shy of six feet tall, someone well over that stepped out. An African-American male, looking like he could easily pass off as a convict.
In fact, there was a very high chance that was exactly who he was. Most people here were, or had been, in prison. Which … caused Joseph’s heart to sink. Suddenly, this didn’t seem like a very fair match-up. Hell, if he didn’t know better, he’d swear they were trying to kill her. And for some reason? That bothered him.
But then … it wasn’t like he could do anything either. Not aside from watching, at least.
His teeth bit into his lower lip as he gripped tightly onto his jeans. He had given up believing in God for a good number of years, really. Still … if there was one, he sent up a quick but quiet prayer.
Let her win. Let her be alright and come out of this mostly well …
The first ten minutes would go basically how Joseph had feared. The poor girl was being manhandled. And the few times she did manage to get hits in? They seemed almost insignificant.
Joseph grimaced, biting into his lower lip. Even turned his head away. He really didn’t think he could watch.
However, as the audience gasped in awe, he glanced back over … and felt his own eyes widen.
While maneuvering a person into the Pedigree was simple, there came a special amount of force to lift the person up off the mat and slam them back down. It was this that caused everyone to cheer for Samantha, including Joseph himself.
The young teen was visibly sweating and panting as she managed to kneel down and hook one of Ezekiel's legs. Everyone began counting as the ref’s hand slammed down onto the canvas.
”ONE!”
“TWO!”
“THREE!”
“ANNND WE HAVE OUR WINNER! GIVE IT UP FOR SAMANTHA HAMILTON!”
Anyone who had bet against her groaned, clearly annoyed that a minor caused them to lose so much money. While most people were paying up, Joseph’s eyes subconsciously remained on Sam, watching her exit the ring.
At worst, she seemed sore. But she wasn’t bleeding or looking half as bad as one would have assumed.
”She is a looker, ain’t she?” one of the men beside Joseph asked.
”Y-Yeah. She definitely is.”
However, whereas the figure beside him was likely staring with lust, there was something else in Joseph’s eyes. Not that he knew. But if there were a mirror in front of him, he certainly would have noticed it was nothing close to the other guys.
He could, though, sense and feel it wasn’t the same.
It was … hard to pinpoint, and even more difficult to explain. Admiration? Infatuation?
Whatever it was, Joseph was so engrossed, that he barely noticed the next set of fighters entering the caged ring. Barely even heard the announcer, truthfully. The only reason he did was because the numerous screams rang in his ears. That plus, eventually, he lost sight of Samantha …

” …. I gotta agree with Sam, Rob. The fuck’s going on?”
As the camera adjusts, it’s revealed Sam isn’t beside Joseph. In fact, she’s nowhere in the room, it seems.
”I’m gonna keep my lashing to a minimum. Not out of fear. But I literally just started fighting here. My anger is nothing compared to what I’m sure Sam is feeling. Seriously though, she’s been here since the very first goddamn episode. She has done nothing but continue to stay devoted to your organization. If you’re trying to make her quit … you're truly an idiot. But like you said, you’re already risking getting in a financial wreck with some people still signed but yet not having fought for months now.
“And at the same time … wouldn’t you want them at their peaks, Rob? I know I would. So if that means they need to step back and find themselves or whatever, just let them. Either way … you may be in charge of this place, sure. But just like Mosh, you’re not a goddamn, legit judge either.”
Joseph shakes his head, eliciting a small sigh.
”While we’re on the topic of quitters … excuse me if I find this match-up very ironic. You’re putting me against … Emily Falls? After you went on to bitch and whine about how she left and stayed out of Mile High for the longest time? Ironic much?”
Smirking at his own words, he finally directs them to Emily.
”That being said, Ms. Falls, I hope you’ve improved yourself. Including getting rid of your childish behaviors. Because I promise you, you can cry all you want. Whine about me ‘being mean’. Sweetie, I hate to break it to you. But this is wrestling. People aren’t meant to be nice. And … for real? You’re .. how old again? Twenty-five, twenty-six I think you said? Yet you still cry when you lose?”
Joseph chuckles, clicking his tongue in disdain at the thought.
”Assuming, that is, you haven’t changed. I don’t know. Hell, I haven’t even heard from you yet. I’m the first between us to address the other. I’m curious; do you even truly understand the weight that comes with this match? Because I do. And I can envision myself facing Bullet and giving her everything I’ve got.
“But just as importantly? I know that regardless of whether I win or not, I will definitely not cry. Well … not out of sorrow. If I do, they’ll be happy tears. But not the kind a child displays when they don’t get their way. That’s a promise, and that is the kind of opponent Bullet deserves to against. She went through Hell to beat Sam for that title; it’s only fair someone who’s willing to step up again and take that same risk should advance.
“So until I know how you may or may not react, I’m naturally going to favor myself as the ideal winner for this fight.”
Joseph goes quiet and remains that way before nodding and speaking up again.
”Well … I suppose for now, I have to wait. Until Thursday, I’ll see you both later.”
No sooner than he offers his farewell does the camera shut off.

Home 1:00 PM
Emily Falls sits on a chair, talking to her sister, Ashley. "Happy to be back?" "You bet!" Emily looks at the camera and waves. "I've been waiting to see you again, Albert, my cameraman!" The camera focuses on the cake, which is a wrestling ring. Everyone is happy for Emily. And stuffed. Yet they want more of the delicious food that Emily had made. Potato salad, chicken, baked beans, and corn bread lay on the table, almost gone. And a delicious strawberry cake, decorated as a wrestling ring, sat next to homemade chocolate ice cream, one slice left. "Who are you fighting?" Emily's mom looks at Emily, and Emily barfs on the floor before saying: "Joseph Hunter." "Hmmm. Bad guy or good guy?" Emily runs into her room, shuts the door, and throws up in a bucket labeled: "Barf Basket," and looks at her cat, Lizzy. *************************************** Subway 6:31 PM Same Day
Emily is sitting on a chair at Subway next to her husband. In front of them, Emily's mom and dad chomp! chomp! chomp! on their food. "Mrs and Mr Emily's parents," James says. "I would like you to - " "Please don't call us that. Call us Dorothy and Joe." "Dorothy and Joe," he repeats. "Please chew slower! I can hear you chew!" Emily's parents give James a dirty look. "Are you excited to fight this Joseph guy?" James asks. "Sure. First day back, and Robert Mack gives me an easy match - a match against Joseph Hunter in a #1 Contendership Match. I just don't accept it. Like he's even close to hard." Emily's parents look at her, each with one eyebrow raised. "I agree," James says. "Reminds me of Sam Hamilton." Emily's mom gasps. "Don't call her that! Give her a nice nickname, like - " "Mrs Emily's - " "What did I say about calling me that?" "DOROTHY," he repeats. "I'm pretty sure that's what her nickname is...." "Make her happy by calling her Sam Ham." "I think she'll get mad if you call her that..." Emily laughs. "Mom is right. She might like it." James smiles and rolls his eyes. *************************************** Home 11:00 AM Next Day
Emily is jumping in the couch alone. "Still fun to jump when you're not with James - even though he's way better at jumping on the couch than me!" Emily stops to take a deep breath and sits down. "So, Joseph Hunter, huh? Yeah, really, a huge loser. "And a cryer, too, I'll bet. Think I'm 25, or 26? I am 25, and I 'cry when I lose?' Yeah, have I ever cried after a loss? Rewatch my matches! You remind me so much of your little girlfriend." Emily puts a finger to her chin. "Well, you're a little boyfriend. That Sam Ham is so muscular, you're just a skinny little kid. "And don't try too hard to win. I know you don't want to win. Fighting your own girlfriend's team. Will you really be willing to do that?" Then Emily Falls smiles very wide. "I'll see you Thursday!" *************************************** Target 5:30 PM Same Day
Emily falls is pushing a buggy at Target, James is next to the buggy. "So what's the surprise?" James asks. Emily grabs a bag labeled: "Chocolate Chip Cookies," and gives it to James. "These!!!" Emily says. "What? Seriously? I thought it was gonna be hot dogs!!!" James frowns and looks down. Emily looks at James. "You go get your hot dogs, I'll put these in the cart." James looks up and smiles. "Thanks, Emily!" He gives Emily the cookie bag and goes to the next aisle. Emily smiles and looks at the cookie bag. She throws the bag into the cart. She pulls out her phone. "Oh, I almost forgot!" She presses a few buttons on her phone, looks up, and says, "I watched your promo, Snakebite! Such a pointless promo to watch. I almost fell asleep." Emily looks at the cookie bag again. "Why do you blame me for taking a break from wrestling when you never wrestle at all? Come out of your little office and show us that you can really kick butt. Or, maybe not, I mean, you're not a good wrestler. Why do you even own a wrestling company?" Emily looks up again. James comes back with a bag of hot dog buns and a bag of hot dog wieners, with a big smile on his face. "Got them!!" Emily smiles. "I'm so happy for you! I know you've wanted hot dogs for a long time!" James nods. "Yep!" Emily keeps pushing the buggy and the light slowly fades.

How long had it been since Joseph and Sam had been separated?
Probably not since April, when he left the States to go to Japan and get trained in Puroresu.
It was odd to not have Sam around. But he was fine. In fact, he was happy. Not for reasons anyone would assume, mind you. While on any given day, he loved being with his new lover, Joseph equally disliked seeing her upset.
And that was exactly what she’d been prior to leaving and agreeing to go see Tiami.
Maybe he should consider making some other friends for himself?
Not that the Chrome Dragons weren’t good. But if he ever experienced something similar like how Sam did .. he would need a back-up plan.
Erik Holland, perhaps?
Tiami’s lover seemed … reasonable.
… He had time to figure this all out. Right now? He was fine knowing Sam was in Portland with a non-Shieldmaiden friend of hers. However, as his stomach growled, he seemed to know what to do for himself; get dinner.
Reaching over, Joseph picks up the phone and begins to order room service for himself …

If the seemingly abrupt text hadn’t given away something was off, the fact Samantha had now been gone for so long spelled it all out.
To say Joseph was a wreck was an understatement. He’d called and even texted Samantha numerous times. Yet never once had he gotten an answer.
”God-fucking-damnit …” he muttered, sighing as he pulled his phone out for what felt like the millionth time and re-read the last text he’d seen from Samantha.
”Not Carmen she says? Is she sure about that?”
A heavy sigh passed his lips as he rose a hand and ran it through his bright, blonde locks. Sam had hurried off earlier this morning. It was well over twelve hours now. Should he call police? What should he do?
His eyes softened before a clenched fist slammed angrily against the wall.
Much as he hated it, the same answer that had entered his mind was indeed the best one. He had to keep waiting. He had to trust that Sam would be able to take care of herself with whatever she was doing.
Looking for someone, though?
She didn’t have family here, did she? Sure, it was possible. But not likely. They had both been born and raised in Florida, as far as he knew.
Another defeated sigh passed Joseph’s lips as he laid down atop the hotel bed, knowing nothing more could be done. And just in case Sam finally called or texted? He placed his phone atop the unused pillow beside him.
”Please be well,” he whispered softly.

”Jesus fucking Christ! Sam?! What happened to you?!”
Joseph hadn’t simply hurried when he finally did get a DM from Sam. No, he’d hauled his ass over. Unfortunately, with the coordinates Sam had given him being too far to run on foot, he’d caved in and hailed a taxi.
So it had taken longer than he wanted to find The Titaness.
And when he finally did manage to locate his lover?
She was a bloody mess. Literally so. Her forehead was busted open. Broken pieces of porcelain were still embedded in her face. Some were even dangerously close to her eyes. Luckily, none had actually pierced her irises; a miracle in itself with how dangerously near some of the shards had reached.
Numerous bruises adorned her body.
And, apparently, her back was very sore. Although with how she looked? Even if she could move, it was best not to. Not unless she was feeling reckless enough to risk further irritating her wounds.
”So … remember when I said I had to find someone? That wasn’t a lie. I just didn’t relay why or whom.”
Sam smugly smirked as she weakly rose the Eternal Warfare Championship title up in her right hand, chuckling softly.
”Think of it as a nightmare version of tag for Death Trip Wrestling.”
”Gods sakes … Sam, I …”
Poor Joseph was at a loss. Sure, he knew she’d signed up for death matches. But he hadn’t known they had these kinds of last-minute stunts.
”If it helps? I had no idea they did these sorts of things either. Nor was it mandatory.”
”So … why then? Why’d you … ??”
Sam’s smirk widened as she shook her head.
”I thought that answer would have been the most obvious one; to make an impact. A damn good first impression.”
Finally, the sounds of footfalls pounding along the concrete registered to Joseph’s ears, causing a wave of relief to swarm through him.
”In here!” he called out, looking sternly at Sam.
”I’m not gonna be stupid enough to tell you not to do this again. But please … just tell me next time.”
That seemed to take The Titaness off guard, as she started to blink, but ceased. No sense in tempting fate, after all. Instead, she slowly nodded.
”Deal. I’m sorry, Joseph.”
”You should be,” he bitterly replied, moving away as numerous EMTs started helping carefully lift Samantha onto a gurney and took her away to the nearby ambulance …

” …. Damn, Sam. I thought you were exaggerating. Kinda wish you were.”
”Noooope. Very serious. You got one of the most simple-minded people from this roster. I pity you; you deserve better competition. Ah well. It is what it is.”
The two are sitting on top of their hotel bed. When the camera focuses on The Titaness, we see Sam has a new set of stitches across her forehead. Some of them overlap the scar she received from The Rise PPV when she fought Bullet in the Ladder Match. Because of the way it looks, there’s a good chance it’ll make a very awkward X-looking shape when this wound heals up.
”So … easy match? You fucking serious, Ms. Falls?”
Joseph shakes his head.
”The only one of us who needs to go back and re-watch episodes is you. Because … my debut wasn’t easy. It was a goddamn Triple Threat, in fact. And yet, I came out the winner. Stupid little girl. Also, I’m not that skinny. I’m flattered, though, that you think a man over two-hundred pounds is that way. No …”
Joseph snickers, his head continuing to move from side to side.
”My muscles definitely aren’t as obvious as Sam’s. But trust me. They are there. No wonder Anya never wanted to face you again. She probably didn’t want your nonexistent IQ rubbing off on her. And … I don’t blame her. She made the smart move, truthfully.
“Now then, as per your request, I do have footage of you crying.”
In his lap is Joseph’s own personal laptop. He turns it around, revealing it already has Windows Media Player up. Upon hitting the “Play” button, two clips start up.
”Ohhhh, damn. Emily, Emily, Emily … you poor child. You challenged the worst person to find that sorta evidence you’re little more than a crybaby. Joseph is very good with certain skills. Research has always been one of them.”
”And now … not only will I prove I’m more observant than you, but I’m stronger out of the ring. Do you even know what a true champion possesses? I don’t think you do. In fact, just from knowing you did leave Mile High for several weeks pretty much indicates you have anything but the body, heart, mind, or even soul of a champion, let alone fighter.”
His arms cross over his chest as Joseph continues.
”You left because … what? Rob said it was things didn’t work out for you. But that’s just the tame way of saying you were too sore of a loser to handle defeat. Why are you even back? No really … why?
“This wasn’t an opportunity you earned. This was given out of pity. Maybe even an incentive to keep you from leaving again. You know what though?”
Joseph turns his head, looking back over to Sam.
”Mind if I borrow a page from your book, per se?”
An amused smirk crosses Samantha’s face as she shakes her head no.
”Go for it. You certainly got my attention.”
”Thanks. So …”
Directing his attention back to the lens, Joseph’s expression turns to a calm but very serious one.
”Let’s pretend that you somehow did beat me. What’s gonna happen when you lose to Bullet? Are you gonna cry like a spoiled child who didn’t get what they wanted? Are you gonna leave again? Are you gonna be able to come back from your loss and regain a chance to go back after the Phoenix Championship?
“You leaving Mile High says no to me. Because true champions never quit, no matter what.”
While still facing the camera, Joseph proudly places a hand on Samantha’s shoulder.
”She spent twenty-four whole hours chasing a champion from a different group down .. and giving them as well as any other opponents who showed up the fight of their lives. And in Mile High? She stayed even after losing the chance to become the first Mile High Champion. Why? Because it’s as she’s said numerous times. She does have the body, heart, mind, and soul of a winner. And she’s been able to back it up by defending the Throwdown Title.”
”And you best believe that if Rob decides to be stupid and put you against me? You will lose. No doubt about it. Be grateful you’re going against Joseph and not me; he has some mercy. Me? I don’t believe in that.”
”Do note, however, the keyword Samantha included; some. Just like how Sam has a zero-tolerance policy for certain people, or traits within them, I do too. And honestly? Ignorance and stupidity are two of them. I’m here to fight, and I’m going to do so seriously. I signed up to fight in Mile High so I could work my way up the ranks. Push and test myself. I don’t have time to be messing with someone who has the mindset of a five-year-old.”
While Joseph pauses to think, the Titaness speaks up again.
”Free advice, by the way. ‘Sam Ham’ is far too overused. It’s not at all creative. If you wanna come up with an insult, then make it at least more creative. Or just shut up, period. Petty nonsense like the kind you spout doesn’t bother me. It just astounds me to see someone as pathetic as our California Princess; nothing more, but certainly nothing less.”
Joseph smirks, lightly rubbing Sam’s shoulder a few times before nodding.
”One … umm … Sam is not small. Six feet tall versus your height of five foot three. And I’m six-one myself. So we both have seven plus inches over you. Two? Don’t tell me not to try to win. Fuck off with that shit, in fact. Mosh made that mistake with me. He assumed I’d be ‘an easy win’. And while, yes, he wasn’t the one who got pinned, the fact doesn’t change. He and Lexi both lost to me. But you know what?”
Joseph shrugs, his smirk widening more.
”Believe what you want. Live in your own little world where your illusions are your reality. It’ll make Thursday all the more sweeter. That way, I can shoot those down, as well as your hopes of ever touching the Phoenix Championship and risking tainting it. Between you and me, Falls, yes. I can fight Bullet.
“Can I win? I’ll admit, that’s up for debate. But I know for damn sure you won’t beat her. You’ve already lost to the Shieldmaidens before. Maybe not Bullet, no. But she has become stronger since you were here last. As far as I know? You haven’t even trained or properly prepared for this fight.
“But me? I’m always training. It just isn’t always recorded, but I reassure you, I am very ready to face you come Thursday.”
Moving his hand off of Sam’s shoulder, he pulls his arms back, making a pose to mock him holding a bow and arrow.
”Soon, you’ll see why the other Chrome Dragons were right in naming me Orion. You’ll see how I was able to shoot Mosh and Lexi down with relative ease. Above all else? I will make you regret viewing me as an easy prey. Hell, I’m not even a prey. Orion is a hunter and thus a predator. I will live up to my nickname. With my victory, you will become another nuisance defeated. Forgotten about while I move on to bigger and better things in my wrestling career.”
After keeping his hold on the invisible string, Joseph lets go, his head shaking once more.
”Good fucking riddance. Easy win, she says. What-fucking-ever.”
