July 4, 2019 9:45 AM Hampton Inn and Suites Colorado Springs, Colorado
It was an early, early morning for Emily and James at their hotel. This was a truly hot day. Little did they know it would get even hotter. Emily checked her watch. “Seventy-five degrees? Isn’t that hot for Colorado?” James shrugged as he pulled in his blue jean jacket over his white t-shirt. “It is,” Emily sighed. “We should have went on vacation in wintertime or something.” She looked out of the window she was leaning on. “It looks nice, at least.” “It wouldn’t be safe to drive in the wintertime, here,” James said. “With all the snowstorms and stuff.” Emily raised in eyebrow. “Why are you so squeamish nowadays? When I first met you, you were willing to drive your plastic bike through a fire!” James laughed. “I was 23 then, Emily.” “And how old are you now, 24? Not such a big space, is it?” James frowned. He hated when Emily proved him wrong. “I’m getting breakfast.” Then he left the room. Emily grabbed a long blue dress, some white shoes, and a red headband out of her bag. Then she went into the bathroom to change. ******************************************** July 4, 2019 6:00 PM Magnes Arena Denver, Colorado
Emily had really suffered from the New Mexico heat. It was nearly eighty-five degrees when they left New Mexico, at 3:00 PM. They had arrived in New Mexico at 12:00 PM, ate at Wendy’s, stayed to talk with the customers, then decided the heat was too much for them and left. By the time they arrived at Denver, at 5:00 PM(they had stopped at a gas station to get drinks), it was almost eighty degrees. At least it was cooler. They soon arrived at the Magnes Arena at around 5:30 PM, and here Emily was, sitting down outside, sweating hard. “You’d think it would be cooler than this. Me and James should go next year. Hopefully it won’t be too hot 2020.” She said to herself. “I think I’m like the third person to make a promo this week at Mile High.” James came out of the arena. “Hey, Em.” he said sadly. “Hi.” Emily said. Then they sat down a few more minutes, sweating. “Do you want to ride around a bit?” James suggested. “You know, in the car?” Emily sat straight up. “Are you kidding? The AC’s broke!” So they sat some more. “Be glad we’re not on the equator, James.” Emily gasped. ******************************************** July 5, 2019 1:00 PM Olive Garden Denver, Colorado
Yesterday was horrible. But Emily knew it was a new day, and she had hope. Emily laughed. “I bet you’re wondering why me and James are so sad. Well,” she continued. “Well, we got evicted, and we’re not doing well with money, so it’s a tough job finding a new house.” Emily smiles. “I’m fighting Ripley this week, am I?” She couldn’t hold it in. She burst out laughing. “This is a joke, right?” she asked. “In a match with someone I’m bound to beat. With someone who barely ever cuts his promos every week, is bad in the ring, and with no personality?” She giggled. “If - “ she paused, then continued again. “If Robert Mack puts us in a rivalry or something, I’ll have to admit that I’ll definitely get my win-loss record evened up.” She and James gave each other a high five. “Life is tough, but life is not.” Emily said. James raised an eyebrow. “Well, let me put this promo to an end. See you when I beat you, Ripley!”

Friday, July 5th, 8:37 PM
The scene opens in a hotel bathroom with Ripley leaning on the sink staring at his reflection in a foggy mirror. He’s shirtless but has jeans on.
Ripley: Really thought I had it last time… Maybe I’ve gotten too rusty after all.
He reaches for a small bottle with a dropper, beard oil, but there’s a loud knock on his hotel door. He stops his reach just short of the bottle and gives himself an annoyed look. A voice from the hallway calls to the room.
Voice: Housekeeping!
Ripley exits the bathroom and grabs a black T-shirt off the bed and puts it on as he reaches the door. He grabs the door and opens it.
Ripley: I thought I already told you-
In the hallway is a redheaded woman in jeans, a white top, and leather jacket. Alice, Ripley’s wife.
Alice: Thought you told me what? Oh you know sir, I think I have the wrong room. So sorry.
Ripley: Very funny but what are you doing here?
Alice gives him a grin and pushes past him.
Alice: What am I doing here? Well, it’s Fourth of July weekend and you have a match too so to hell with staying home and being bored. What kinda greeting is that though anyway? Thought you’d be happy to see me.
Ripley: Oh I am. I’m very happy.
Alice: Hmm, you don’t seem too happy. What’s the problem?
She opens up the mini fridge and pulls out a fifth of Maker's Mark, she gives it a look and nods, then grabs two small glasses off the top of the counter and pours up two drinks. She hands a glass to Ripley and sips hers.
Ripley: Feeling a bit rusty, that’s all. First Chris gets me with that surprising pin then my second match it was like I completely out of it. I don’t know, Alice.
Alice: I hear ya. I hear ya and I just have to ask, what the hell? This isn’t the Ripley I know. The changed Ripley. The Ripley that’s ready to restart in Mile High Wrestling and take what’s his. You saying after just two losses that Ripley has left? I don’t think so.
Ripley looks down at his drink and shakes his head before taking a big gulp.
Ripley: He hasn’t left.
Alice: Then I say you stop this negative talk and let’s get your mind on something else.
Ripley: Well that’s a good suggestion. Have anything in mind?
Alice: I have a few ideas.
The clink their glasses together and grin.
Saturday, July 6th, 1:21 PM
Ripley is standing outside of the arena in Denver holding a coffee and wearing sunglasses.
Ripley: I’ll admit that I haven’t gotten off to a great start with Mile High Wrestling’s return. Could be that I’m a bit rusty after being away for several months, I don’t know. What I do know is that I’m not going to make excuses for my poor performance and I’m certainly not going to give up. I’m sure there are people that would love it if I gave up and walked away.
He takes a long sip of coffee and smiles.
Ripley: Those people would be idiots. We’re only two shows back in with the third this weekend and I’m just getting started here. Last time I was a tag team champion but now I’m on my own. Suits me fine because that’s how I prefer it. I’ve been traveling the world for years making a name for myself and I’m already established here but I want more. I need more.
Since I’ve been away I’ve been able to refocus on what really matters in life. I’ve cut out the negative aspects of my life that were beginning to drag me down and now with Mile High Wrestling picking up steam and continuing to go strong I’m ready to take my place as a top wrestler here. I’ve done it in other places and honestly part of the fun for me is climbing that company ladder. Sure, I know I can make it to the top and that’s where I belong but proving and showing it is fun for me. I enjoy proving people wrong over and over.
He grins as he takes his next sip of coffee.
Ripley: Which brings me to my next opponent, Emily Falls. Oh Emily sure does seem to be shy about how she feels facing me. Honestly though, I can’t blame here. My last two matches I wasn’t able to get the job done but she shouldn’t think that means she’ll get an easy win over me. No, these losses are adding fuel to the fire and anyone that really knows me knows that makes me dangerous. I honestly don’t have anything against Emily either. She seems...nice. A bit too bubbly for my liking but a nice person. I’m still going to blast her with as many Marks of Failure as it takes.
Something else people that really know me knows that there are two sides to me. Who I am in the ring and who I am outside the ring. Yeah, sure I can hear it now “we’re all like that” and sure but my thing is I keep the two worlds separate. Outside we can share a drink and joke but if we are put up against each other, I’ll fight you like you’re my archenemy.
He gives a sigh.
Ripley: Going into this match I have a lot to prove. Not just to myself but to the fans. To my opponent. I expect the best out of myself and so far I have been failing. So, Emily may be a decent person but she’s in for the fight of her life. I’m not going to hold anything back and she’s going to learn very quickly that my past loses don’t mean I’m done for. I wish her luck. Not to win but to survive.
He continues sipping his coffee and looking at the arena as the scene fades to black.
